The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists honored Kathryn White, DNP, CRNA, APRN after her election as a Fellow to the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). White is one of only 30 CRNAs who have received this honor since the formation of the Academy in 1973.

Kathryn White is the Program Director, Coordinator, and an Associate Clinical Professor in the University of Minnesota’s nurse anesthesia program in Minneapolis. She was involved in the first edition of the DNP textbook Doctor of Nursing Practice Essentials: A New Model for Advanced Practice Nursing. People have purchased more than 21,000 copies of the text both nationally and internationally—a testament to its influence.

White said that nurse anesthesia is no longer “the best kept secret in healthcare” and that the field has come into its own. Her view is born out by the ranking of the profession of nurse anesthesia as the 3rd best type of health care job in US News & World Reports 2016 ranking of professions. The publication gave the field an overall score of 7.8 out of 10.
